Media Release - Hutt St Centre Urges Action on Short Stay Accommodation to Ease Housing Stress

Hutt St Centre is calling for urgent, targeted incentives to encourage property owners to rent to low-income earners as part of a broader effort to address the state’s deepening housing crisis and reduce homelessness. 

Appearing before the Select Committee on the Short Stay Accommodation Sector today, CEO Chris Burns CSC told the committee that Hutt St Centre witnesses the devastating impact of housing unaffordability every day — particularly on the most vulnerable members of the community. 

“The intersection of short stay accommodation and homelessness is increasingly evident, placing greater pressure on Hutt St Centre,” Mr Burns said.
