Rememberance Day 2018

Posted by Hutt St Centre on 2018-11-11

In 1954, when the Daughters of Charity arrived in Adelaide, the Sisters found a number of men living in the Park Lands and nearby rooming houses. Many were returned soldiers who arrived home and faced the breakdown of marriage, unemployment and the effect of the trauma of war. With no money and depending upon Divine Providence, the Sisters set about caring for their basic life needs, giving them hot tea and sandwiches through the gates of what is now Hutt St Centre.
This trend has continued over the years with us working with a number of men and families after the Vietnam War. The world is now witnessing a new phenomenon in homelessness for contemporary veterans – men and women who have served their country in the Middle East.
Hutt St Centre extends our thanks and gratitude to the men and women who have served our country.

Lest We Forget.
