Walk a Mile in My Boots named Community Event of the Year

You did it! Thank you to the 13,000 participants who took part in Walk a Mile in My Boots across South Australia this year, and all the tireless fundraisers and generous donors. You’ve helped us to keep our Day Centre doors open.

It was our tenth year of this state-wide event, and in honour of the efforts of everyone involved, Walk a Mile in My Boots received the City of Adelaide ‘Community Event of the Year’ award.

This was one of the Citizen of the Year awards for outstanding contribution to our local community. We owe this amazing recognition to our dedicated supporters who showed people facing homelessness that they are not alone: thank you.

Funds raised through Walk a Mile in My Boots go directly to our Day Centre which provides a safe, non-judgemental space for people to come for support.

Thanks to your fundraising, we can give people in need the basics that many of us take for granted: hot meals, showers and laundry facilities, secure locker storage, and the opportunity to talk with caring people about overcoming personal challenges.

Through our Day Centre, we provide access to 18 visiting services including GPs, Registered Nurses, eye clinics, legal advice, and financial counselling.

“I come to Hutt St Centre for showers, meals, support, and to talk to people. Hutt St has helped me to open up about my struggles, and work through them. Without Hutt St Centre I would not have access to the essentials – showers and decent meals. My future goal is to find a house, and a secure job.” – Travis*.

SAVE THE DATE - Walk a Mile in My Boots Adelaide, Friday 9 August. Registrations open Monday 3 June 2019.
