Thanks for giving people a voice - the life-changing power of being heard
“I’m treated like a real person. It feels like someone cares, when most of the time it feels like no one cares.”
James* recently came to Hutt St Centre for support while sleeping rough. As well as helping him find a house, we’ve been giving him hot meals, a hot shower, the chance to do his laundry and socialise.
James recently wrote this on Instagram:
“Living on the streets – I wake up in the morning and I come to Hutt St Centre because I know I can get a hot cup of coffee and I’ll be welcomed with a friendly face. I’m treated like a real person. It feels like someone cares, when most of the time it feels like no one cares. I had a marriage break up. When we split up I signed everything over to her. It only takes one event in your life that turns everything upside down. After my marriage break up I went through severe depression and anxiety and I found it really hard to open up and talk about what I was going through.”
