Hutt St Centre’s official National Homeless Persons Week event: walk a mile in my boots is back – bigger and better than before – and we would like you to “walk a mile with us” on Friday 9 August 2013.
Last year 2,300 people participated in the event in the city and a further 1,500 people walked at their offices, in their suburb or at their school. Together we raised over $105,000 which has helped Hutt St Centre continue to provide essential and professional services for people facing homelessness in Adelaide.
It was heart-warming for everyone involved, but especially for people who come to the Centre every day. Many of Hutt St Centre’s clients joined the walk, others volunteered to set up the start or helped cook breakfast for walkers at the finish line. Some were just happy to cheer and greet walkers as they passed by the Centre. It truly is an event that brings people together regardless of their circumstances.
We sincerely appreciate the effort made by everyone in 2012, and hope we will have even more new walkers in 2013. If you have walked before, perhaps you can bring someone new with you. If seeing over 2,300 walk by was heart-warming in 2012, just imagine the impact of 4000 walkers!
When: Friday August 9 at 7.00am for a 7.30am start – It will only take one hour of your time
Where: Start at corner of North & East Terrace and finish at South Terrace in the South Parklands for a hot breakfast
